Committeemore members needed!
One committee member (Claire) has left the choir and one member (Catherine) will step down at the AGM so the choir desperately needs new committee members. The Committee meets monthly on Zoom and the members of the Committee perform various roles. The responsibilities of the Officers (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) and the Members’ Secretary & Website Manager are described on the Committee page of the Website. The Committee has identified a number of other roles which need to be taken on by various members of the Committee. These are:

  • PUBLICITY – Designs posters/fliers/programmes for future events ready for printing after approval of committee/advertises concerts in local newspapers/magazines/places reviews of performances
  • SOCIAL MEDIA – Adds to Facebook page and ensures it is regularly updated with news/snippets of info. (This is well read and a good source of publicity for the choir)
  • BOOKINGS SECRETARY – Responsible for liaising with venues and booking for concerts/ workshops etc. Ensures that rehearsal venue has record of when it is needed each term and ensures that any invoices are passed on to treasurer for payment
  • MUSIC MANAGER/MUSIC STORAGE – See Repertoire co-ordinator on Committee page

Please seriously consider joining the Committee, particularly if you could take on one of the above roles. The choir can only continue if it has a committee to run it. Speak to any Committee member for further information. Your choir needs you!!

Proposed Change to Constitution
At the AGM the committee is proposing a change to Clause 4: Officers and Committee.

The present wording reads:
The management of the choir shall be in the hands of a committee consisting of the following officers: Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary and up to 9 other members including Deputy Chair, Members’ Secretary and Website Manager. The officers and other members of the committee shall be elected by and out of the choir’s members at the AGM: they shall hold office until the next AGM and be eligible for re-election.

The present committee would like to re-word this to ensure that no newly elected committee member has to commit to the Chair or Officer roles without serving on the committee and gaining insight on how it runs, thus ensuring continuity for all choir members.

The proposed new wording is:
The management of the choir shall be in the hands of a committee consisting of 12 committee members, though additional members may be co-opted as necessary. The committee shall be elected at the AGM, they shall hold office until the next AGM and be eligible for re-election. The officers of the committee will be Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. They will be elected by the committee at the first committee meeting after the AGM, will hold office for a year and be eligible for re-election.

Please read and consider this proposal, you will be asked to vote on it at the AGM. The Choir Constitution is available to all members on the choir website.
